Your details
The first details you will be asked for are your personal details. These will be used in the completion of letters and forms that are later sent to your creditors, so need to be accurate and as complete as possible. None of these details will ever be used without your consent and are fully secured using 128 bit encryption.
Causes and circumstances
This is where you get the chance to explain to your creditors what happened to get you into the current situation. The simple drop down menu gives the main reason headings for financial difficulties, but if possible you should give a reasonably detailed explanation in the notes field putting the events into logical order and giving approximate dates.
Income
Your income needs to be the monthly total after all deductions such as tax and National Insurance. If you have a deduction from your wages or income, you should still show the total income before such deductions and then show them separately in your expenditure. If you have a partner or any additional income such as lodgers or employed children, this should also be included. Don’t worry as these amounts will also be included in your expenditure. By doing this you ensure nothing is hidden from the creditors and increase the chances of them accepting your payment offers.
Expenditure
This is what determines the level of payments to your creditors and therefore should be completed accurately and with care. There are indicators for the normal expenditure amounts which are guidelines only, they may be exceeded, but if so you will need to give an explanation of why in the notes. You may also have to support this with documentary evidence, for example; if you have put down £50.00 per month for prescriptions it is quite likely some or all of your creditors will ask for a doctor’s certificate as proof.
Creditors
This is where you need to complete all the details of companies you owe money to. You cannot include secured creditor for example HP on a car. This would need to go into your expenditure instead. You cannot include loans from friends or family as these are not regulated by the Consumer Credit Act. You can include credit cards, store cards, catalogues, unsecured loans, overdrafts and door to door loan collections.
Letters and forms
Once all your details are complete you will be able to view, download and print all the forms and letters you need for sending to and paying the individual creditor companies. You can choose which letter or form to open and also which creditor or creditors to send them to. Payments should always be made on the same day of each month and by setting up the standing order with the mandates included, you can ensure this. It is always advisable to set the date for a few days after you normally receive your main income.
